First Baptist Church of East Greenwich

Celebrating the presence of God in our time

Sunday School: Our Christian Education Program includes Sunday School classes from pre-school (ages 3-5) through Senior High. The curriculum in use is Seasons of the Spirit. In addition to coordinating the Sunday School curriculum with the weekly sermon, Seasons of the Spirit offers a wealth of material on the internet, allowing parents and children additional opportunities to discuss Sunday School lessons at home.

Sunday School classes meet in our Church Annex every Sunday except the first Sunday of each month. On the first Sunday of the month, children ages three through those in 2nd grade attend Children’s Church: Students in grades 3 through 5 attend Junior Church. This schedule allows our teachers the opportunity to attend church on communion Sunday without interrupting the continuum of our children’s classes.

In addition to class lessons, First Baptist Church tries to instill in each of its students the importance of living our faith. In this spirit, our Sunday School classes often take part in various mission efforts. This year, for the first time, our church is involved in a project called “Bearing with One Another In Love”. Suggested by Nancy Schnell, whose son is serving in the U.S. military in Irag, the idea is for American servicemen to carry small stuffed animals, such as ‘Beanie Babies’, to give to the local Iraqi children as a gesture of goodwill and love. Donations of stuffed animals have been pouring in. During classes on Jan 21st and 28th, Sunday School students will attach a special tag to each one (the tag includes a picture of our entire Sunday School and the name of the project) and, at the end of January, they will be sent to Nancy’s son, Anthony Roberti, so that he and his comrades can begin giving them away. Donations of any animals except pigs are welcome and can be left in any of the baskets in the Sunday School classrooms, in Fellowship Café, or in the Great Room in front of the new nursery.
