Board of Deacons: This 12-member Board could be considered a direct extension of the Pastor.  As such, it is responsible for regular and special worship services of the church, including content and music. Each of the Deacons is assigned a "district" of 12-16 families and is encouraged to act as the assistant minister for these families. In addition, each Deacon is expected to serve on one sub-committee whose duties include helping plan services, arranging flowers for services, welcoming visitors, visiting shut-ins, and ushering. Since the fall of 2000, our Deacons have also been taking Communion to several shut-ins within our congregation.  Typically, we visit one or two individuals, in pairs, each month.

Board of Trustees: The 7-member Board of Trustees is responsible for the finances and the properties of the Church. They are also responsible for authorizing disbursements by the Church Treasurer, the review and approval of salaries and benefits for staff members, the appointment of the Financial Secretary, the regular auditing of church financial records, and making recommendations to the Council regarding real estate, alteration or debt transactions in excess of $4,000.

Board of Education: The 8-member Board of Christian Education's responsibilities include providing guidance on curriculum for all programs, planning yearly outreach programs for Sunday School, coordinating yearly special programs such as Easter and Christmas pageants, organizing registration for Sunday School, executing 3 to 4 Family nights per year, and coordinating the Sunday School Directory. In addition, the Board coordinates our church’s adult education program.

Board of Christian Outreach:  The five member Board of Christian Outreach is responsible for recognizing and responding to need on local, national and worldwide levels. There is a Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer. The Chair also attends the monthly Church Council meeting. The Treasurer oversees the budget; the Chair may assume this responsibility at his/her discretion.

 

Responsibilities of the Board members include:

East Greenwich Food Bank. One member is responsible for organizing donations and ensuring delivery of the Food Bank offering. Total amounts are reported to the Congregation via the weekly Bulletin or the monthly Evangel.

Mission Offerings. There are four financial drives for mission objectives during the year--each member assumes responsibility for the promotion of one such drive. The four missions collections are: Retired Ministers and Missionaries Benefit (Dec/Jan), America for Christ Offering (March), One Great Hour of Sharing (May/June), and World Mission Offering (Sept/Oct).

Mission Advocate: Our church's Mission Advocate attends state-wide meetings, meets visiting missionaries and if possible arranges an opportunity for the congregation to hear their message. He/she reports any mission news to the congregation in the Evangel or at Sunday service.

Other needs may be brought to the atttention of the Board are evaluated as to what action may be necessary and the Board's ability to engage in an appropriate response.

Board of Christian Outreach Meetings are currently held on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 pm.



Church Council:  The Church Council consists of eight voting and two non-voting members that include the Church President, the chairperson of each of the other Boards and three members at-large. The Minister and the Church Clerk are the two ex-officio members.

It is the long-range planning body for our church focusing on the life and ministry of our church. It meets monthly and may consider any Church related concern brought through a Council member.   The Council also reviews and approves any major policy or program and reviews any personnel changes recommended by any Board.

Other significant duties include: inter-board conflict resolution, filling board vacancies, proposed budget review, appoints leadership for fellowship programs if warranted, performs Church publicity, coordinates the annual report booklet, may adjust the number of Board members of any Board with Congregation's approval, enforces the Church By-Laws, appoints the Standing Nominating Committee and a Staff Relations Committee.

Church Council meetings are currently held on the last Monday of the month at 7:00 pm.
