First Baptist Church of East Greenwich

Celebrating the presence of God in our time

Women’s Alliance

.

Every woman member and friend of First Baptist is a welcome member of the women's Alliance. We meet four times a year to promote fellowship and spiritual development among the women of the church. Our meetings usually involve devotions, a short business session, a speaker or program, and time for conversation and refreshments. In addition, there are many small groups, called "circles," that meet more frequently for specific activities. Our annual May Breakfast is a social highlight of the year and provides the funding for our annual budget. With these moneys, and our individual love gifts, we support many charitable activities in our church, community, and throughout the world.

Within our own church the women of the Alliance organize the ‘Fellowship Café' that takes place after worship each week. We also organize funeral collations, welcome breads for our Sunday morning visitors, meals for members who are ill, and a variety of other activities too numerous to mention. Through our fundraising activities, we have offered financial support for a variety of projects; these include curtains in the church hall, new appliances for the kitchen, and cushions for the sanctuary pews. A pledge of over $35,000 was given to assist in the cost of the renovation of our Sanctuary Building! Beyond our own congregation, the women support a foster child through Plan USA, take part in the activities of our statewide American Baptist Women's Ministries, and have purchased school uniforms for children in the Dominican Republic. There are many opportunities for fellowship and service and we hope you will join us!

Circles: Small groups of women that meet regularly to share a common interest or activity. All women in the church and friends are invited to any or all of the circles.

YOGA Yoga with Diane Farren is twice a month at the church. Check calendar for dates and times.

GARDENING January's meeting was very productive. Next month we will plan layout of flowers in church gardens. Your garden may have a little something that we might want. We will be collecting unwanted flower pots for a future plant sale.

Meetings are first Sunday of the month after café.

ART CLASS We take an art class at Today Art Studio in East Greenwich. We are offered a different art project each month or may continue on something we like doing. The cost is usually around $14, depending on how many attend. A head count is needed to insure adequate attendance and supplies.

Meetings are the first Monday of each month.

PHOTO We gather our photos once a month and bring them to Polly Erickson’s house where we organize, put them in albums, and work on scrapbooking. A great way to get something accomplished while you have fun, too!

Meetings are normally last Thurs. of the month.

DINNER OR MOVIE We meet once a month for a movie or to go out to dinner together. For dinner nights, please call Anne Tarczuk in advance for reservation purposes.

BOOKS Books are chosen for the year (Sept-June) at an annual meeting in June. Monthly meetings are held to discuss the chosen books. Even if you have not read the book you are invited to come for the discussion. Contact Ruth Winde 885-1432

February’s book- Galileo’s Daughter by Dava Sabel
