Prayer Shawl Ministry

Started here by Debra Anderson, our prayer shawl knitters are a vibrant group of individuals who give generously of themselves. Knitters who volunteer receive the name of a person, simple instructions for an item to knit, and the supplies, if they like. Items have included shawls, lap blankets, and baby blankets. The knitter prays for the recipient as they are creating the item—perhaps prayers of comfort for a terminally ill patient, prayers of guidance for a new mother, whatever the knitter feels is appropriate to the specific circumstance. When the item is finished, a personal handoff is arranged, when possible. Recipients have given moving testimonial to the comforting power of these items, so lovingly created simply to make another feel better. Knitters need not be members of the congregation to take part in this wonderful ministry. Instructions and names are available by contacting the church.
