First Baptist Church of East Greenwich

Celebrating the presence of God in our time

Mission: La Romana
Since 1995, our church has been involved in mission trips to La Romana in the Dominican Republic. About once every two years, a team of 25-50 FBC'ers spends a week living and working with the wonderful people of the Good Samaritan Hospital and the Haitian Mission Baptist Church. Some work on the construction crew at the hospital, which has been built mostly by American volunteers, and some work on the medical team, usually staffing one-day clinics in the "bateys" (villages inhabited by the Haitian sugar cane workers). While there, we all live in dormitory-style housing, fed by the lovely ladies that serve as our hosts, and are blessed by the good and faithful brothers and sisters we have come to love.
Our next trip to La Romana is scheduled for Spring, 2008.

Our ABC missionary visiting with a family in one of the Batey "clinics".

As we all quickly learned security walls, as well as all buildings, are made one way and one way only... one bucket of cemento at a time. Mas Cemento!!!

In order for the cement to get to the top we must build staging and be sure it is safe enough to work on.

These are some of the villagers in the first Batey we went to. It is amazing how children everywhere will stop to pose for a camera.

Ok guys I think I got it now, first the re-bar, then the wood, then the cement... or a triple back flip off this tiny piece of wood.
